Overview

ThoughtWell is a privacy-first private journal and diary app. All your journal entries and personal data stay on your device. We do not operate any servers or cloud services for this app.

Data Collection

We do not collect any personal data. ThoughtWell does not transmit any data to external servers. There are no accounts, no cloud sync, and no analytics.

Data Stored on Device

ThoughtWell stores the following data locally on your device using AsyncStorage:

• Journal Entries — Title, body text, mood, tags, photos, folder assignment, and timestamps
• Folders — Custom folder names and colors for organizing entries
• Writing Streak — Current and longest streak counts, total entry count
• Settings — Theme preference, accent color, font size, sort order, PIN code (if enabled), and notification preferences

This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly export it using the Export feature.

PIN and Biometric Security

ThoughtWell offers optional PIN code and biometric (fingerprint/face) authentication to protect your journal. Your PIN is stored locally on your device. Biometric authentication uses your device's built-in hardware — no biometric data is stored by ThoughtWell.

Photos

ThoughtWell allows you to attach photos to journal entries. Photos are accessed through your device's photo library using standard system permissions. Photos remain on your device and are not uploaded to any server.

Export/Import

ThoughtWell allows you to export all your data as a JSON file and import data from a backup file. These operations use your device's native sharing and file picker functionality. The exported file is handled entirely by your device's operating system — Griswold Labs has no access to it.

Network Communication

ThoughtWell does not make any network requests. The app functions entirely offline with no internet connection required.

Third-Party Services

ThoughtWell does not integrate with any third-party services, analytics, advertising networks, or tracking tools.

Data Security

Your journal data is stored in your device's local storage. It is protected by your device's built-in security (screen lock, encryption) and optionally by the app's PIN/biometric lock. Uninstalling the app will delete all stored data.

Children's Privacy

ThoughtWell is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
