PantryChef ("the App") is developed by Griswold Labs. It is an offline recipe finder: the recipes are bundled inside the app, and your pantry and favorites stay on your device. We do not operate any servers or cloud services for this app, and there are no accounts.
We do not collect any personal data. PantryChef does not transmit your pantry, recipes or settings to us or to any server. The free version is ad-supported and the AdMob SDK performs ad tracking (see Third-Party Services).
PantryChef stores the following data locally on your device using AsyncStorage:
This data does not leave your device unless you export or share it (see below). You can erase it with Clear All Data in Settings, and uninstalling the app deletes all stored data.
PantryChef makes no network requests of its own. In this version the optional online recipe lookup is switched off: searches use only the recipes bundled in the app, and your ingredients are not sent to any recipe service. The only internet traffic is the Google AdMob SDK loading and reporting ads (see Third-Party Services) and, if you buy the upgrade, Google Play Billing (on iPhone and iPad, Apple's App Store).
In Settings you can export your pantry, favorites, shopping list and settings as one JSON file, and import such a file back. Export writes the file to the app's temporary cache and opens your device's share sheet; import uses your device's file picker. You can also share a single recipe or a recipe's shopping list as text from the recipe screen. Data leaves your device only when you choose to export or share it, and it goes only to the app or location you pick. Griswold Labs never receives it.
PantryChef does not request the camera, microphone, location, contacts, notifications, or access to your photos and files. The file picker and share sheet are provided by your device and only see the file you choose.
This app displays advertising supplied by Google AdMob. To serve ads, the AdMob SDK collects information from your device — typically your advertising identifier, device and app information, coarse location inferred from your IP address, and interactions with the ads shown. That data is handled by Google under its own privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy. We do not send your personal records to AdMob or to any advertiser — the data this app stores for you stays on your device. You can limit ad personalisation in your device settings (Android: Settings → Google → Ads). The upgrade that removes ads turns this off. Apart from Google AdMob and Google Play Billing (Apple's App Store on iPhone and iPad), no other third-party service, SDK or API is integrated.
Ads on iPhone and iPad. On iOS the ads are also served by Google AdMob, under Google's privacy policy. iOS gives an app your device's advertising identifier (IDFA) only if you have allowed tracking for it; you can review that choice at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
In-app purchases. Any purchase inside the app is handled by Google Play Billing on Android and by the Apple App Store on iPhone and iPad. Google or Apple processes the payment and keeps the record (Apple under Apple's Privacy Policy); the app only learns whether the purchase is active. We never see your payment details. Restoring a purchase checks your Google Play or App Store account.
Your data is stored in your device's local storage, protected by your device's built-in security (screen lock, encryption). Uninstalling the app will delete all stored data.
PantryChef is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
